Ed Paschke

Ed Paschke spent the early 1970s living in a neighborhood on the north side of Chicago called Rogers Park. His studio at the time was located on Clark Street a few blocks from his home on Estes Avenue. It was, and remains today, a typically working class area as diverse as the city itself. His studio, which was located directly above the Adelphi Theatre, was made up of unusually high ceilings and walls completely covered in a mish mash of boxing posters, circus banners and other visually alarming substance. You could often hear the sound of the movies playing below and see the glowing theatre marquee just outside the large panel windows. The perfect setting for the artist who derived so much from the neon colors of night and from the imagery of popular culture.
